File extraction and conversion
Get your files out
of the old system.
Old systems keep documents, photos and scans in file stores and inside their databases. We extract those files in their original formats, and we can convert them to PDF so you no longer need the old software, or its licenses, to open them.
What we do
We extract and convert
what the old system holds.
We size the work to the files the old system holds. It usually covers these four parts.
File extraction
We copy the files the old system keeps in its file stores, along with the record each one belongs to.
BLOBs to native files
We pull out files stored inside database columns as BLOBs and save each one in its original file format.
Conversion to PDF
We convert file types that need special software into PDFs, so you need fewer licenses to open them.
Files linked to records
We keep track of which record each file belongs to, so it opens with that record in LiftShift Records.
How the file work runs
Four steps, from inventory to linked files.
We check each step with your team before moving on.
Inventory
We find where the old system keeps its files, whether in file stores, database BLOBs or both.
Agree on formats
We decide with you which files stay in their original format and which convert to PDF.
Extract and convert
We extract each file and convert the agreed file types.
Link and check
We link each file to its record and check the results with your team.
Files in LiftShift Records
Each file opens with its record.
LiftShift Records links each record to its documents, photos and scans where they are stored, shows images on the record and lets authorized users download any file.

Common questions
Can you extract files without archiving the data?
Yes. We can scope file extraction and conversion on their own or as part of an archival or migration project.
Which file types convert to PDF?
We agree on that during scoping, based on the files the old system holds and the software needed to open them.
Do the files have to move into LiftShift Records?
No. LiftShift Records can link each record to its files where they are stored, on storage the customer or an approved partner manages.
Start with the files
Where does the old system keep its files?
Tell us what the system holds and what people need to open. We’ll scope the extraction and any conversion.
